Our Melora brand was a proud sponsor of The Great Rotary Art Expo this year, “Sunshine and Canvas”. This community event featured 10 days of local creative talent including artworks to purchase, children’s art, art classes, interactive art, an art bazaar, artists in residence and displays by local art groups.
Held at Te Whare Taumata in Whakatane, the event was organized by the Rotary Sunshine Whakatane and Eastern Bay Rotary Clubs to raise funds for Jezreel House and Wairaka Centennial Park Project. The expo was visited by over 1800 people with the fundraising total yet to be announced by the Rotary Clubs.
“Over the weekend graphic designer and artist Steve Murphy, together with Joanne Black created some Banksy-style public art on the exterior of Te Whare Taumata,” reported Whakatane Beacon.
“On Sunday, students from the Whakatane High School Interact Club, ran the Tried and Treasured Art Bazaar, which attracted around 60 pieces of pre-loved art for resale. The success of the event led it to being extended through until Friday afternoon.”
Aside from the fundraising efforts, all agreed this was a hugely successful event and is envisioned to become a major biennial fundraiser for Eastern Bay of Plenty community projects.
